Murder by shooting of Alfred Austwick, police constable of Dodworth, near Barnsley, on 31 Jul 1886.Murphy was born at Barnsley in 1840, the son of weavers. He had previously spent time in prison for housbreaking at Batley. Austwick had served a summons on him for drunkenness the day before the murder.
