    Was originally charged with horse stealing in 1724; was presumably hanged for a later offence.

    Crime:
    Horse stealing - a grey gelding belonging to Richard Thornton of Horncastle, near Hemsworth.

    Lee had earlier pleaded guilty at Beverley Quarter Sessions to stealing pigs from Cawthorne, near Barnsley. He was transferred to York Castle Gaol to await transportation, and was there recognized as a horse thief for which he was duly charged and sentenced to death.

    Date: 13 Aug 1737

    Crime:
    Highway robbery of Robert Stainton at Saxton and of John Boldock at Owston; also found guilty of horse stealing - a red roan mare belonging to William Chambers.

    Reported escaped from Hull Gaol on 27 March 1736 where he was held on suspicion of horse stealing; the wanted notice described him as: 'a middle-siz'd Man, about 28 Years of Age, of a fair Complexion, had on an Olive colour'd Coat, the Collar of which was lin'd with light Velvet, a blue Silk Waistcoat, Leather Breeches, and a light Bob Wigg; he lately liv'd with --- Combes, Esq.'     Stealing 6 silver spoons and a gold ring valued at 15s from the dwelling house of John Wharton; transportation 7 years Lent 1747.

    Subsequently found guilty of being at large while under sentence of transportation and also of horse stealing; hanged at York 25 Mar 1749.

    Breaking and entering into the house of John Moorehouse and Thomas Moorehouse, brothers and husbandmen of Skipton, Craven, and stealing ?5, 1s on 28 July 1718, three weeks after his release from York Castle Gaol on a previous charge of horse stealing. Reprieved.

    Not in 1723 shipment to Virginia. May have died in gaol. Was alive at Yorkshire Assizes Lent 1721, but not in list of reprieved transports for Yorkshire Assizes Summer 1721.
